DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:
The project objectives are the following: to give young people opportunities to learn new set of professional skills, gain experience in leadership, team building and communication, develop intercultural dialogue and cooperation between young people and local inhabitants for better employment opportunities in the future. Through this project we want to promote solidarity between nations, to integrate and unite the European volunteers and local young people, promoting European cultures, languages and European Solidarity Corps programme, as well as to make changes in young people’s life and environment around them.

Rezekne Social center- Dec. 2023- Dec. 2024
The volunteers will work in Rezekne Social center from 1st December 2023 – 30th November 2024. Their tasks will be to make the retirement age people’s life more interesting and active, help them to gain personal and social awareness. The volunteers and the staff working in the Social center will learn from each other, gain mutual understanding, make the link between younger and older generation, as well as between different nationalities. The volunteers will work in the Pensioners’ Day Center, where they will promote the integration of pensioners into European society, raise their knowledge of the processes taking place in Europe, promote intercultural dialogue, understanding of the diversity of nations, languages, cultures, provide information on what is happening in their native countries and provide intercultural education. In the Social center there is a friendly pensioners’ group – active and joyful people who like to spend time together, celebrate the holidays, make handicraft etc. The volunteers will need to bring their enthusiasm and energy into events, sharing their culture and traditions. The volunteers will give English, German, English, Spanish, French lessons (depending on their own native languages). They will organize computer classes, cookery, sport lessons for seniors. The volunteers will be able to intensively practice Russian or Latvian in the center. The volunteers will also work in the center for children with mental disabilities and the center for children at risk group. There the volunteers will make handicraft, spend time together, give language lessons and make some activities for children. The volunteers will gain non-formal learning while doing their work by communicating with their colleagues, other volunteers and local people. The volunteer will have 6 working hours every working day. The volunteer will have two days off per week on Saturday and Sunday. The volunteer will have two additional free days every month. The volunteer will participate in on-arrival and mid-term trainings organized by Latvian National Agency. The volunteer will have access to the online Latvian language course. The volunteer will be able to do other creative activities in the city, cooperate with other volunteers from different cities and organisations.
Kindergarten “Namiņš”- Nov. 2023- Nov. 2024
The volunteer will work in the kindergarten “Namiņš” from 17th November 2023 – 16th November 2024. He/she will have the opportunity to learn the theoretical and practical aspects of working with children, including learning about Latvian educational system and methods used in children’s education. The volunteers will learn how to educate and take care of the children, will learn a lot about the Latvian pre-school educational system. The main volunteering activities include: helping the teachers of the kindergarten “Namiņš” in their everyday work with small children, to walk with children in the yard of the kindergarten, to talk with them, to play different games, to teach children with basic English and other languages depending on volunteers’ own native languages, music, singing, dancing, sport workshops, swimming in the swimming-pool, various games, handicraft, leisure activities, help in organizing events. The volunteer will have 6 working hours every working day. The volunteer will have two days off per week on Saturday and Sunday. The volunteer will have two additional free days every month. The volunteer will participate in on-arrival and mid-term trainings organized by Latvian National Agency. The volunteer will have access to the online Latvian language course. The volunteer will be able to do other creative activities in the city, cooperate with other volunteers from different cities and organisations.
